The Elements

Blue Alatar’s 2nd release, The Elements, was a radical change from Irradiated Hamster Alert – an album that took 10 years to complete. The goal with The Elements was to scratch a specific, folky itch and find a style that was easier to replicate.

Everything on this E.P. is either played, sampled or sequenced by Liam Taylor.

The E.P. is comprised of 4 tracks, each representing one of the 4 elements.

Aeolus

A fantastic introduction to this E.P. as it encapsulates everything about the following music: distorted guitars, driving rhythms, folk instruments and exciting melodies.

Through the Centre of the Earth

I’d written a version of this track several years ago but was never totally satisfied with it. When I settled on the idea of exploring the 4 elements, I immediately recalled my unfinished business with this track.

Dawn Ritual

A gentle, seaside stroll, with an underlying “pirate paradise” vibe. Monkey Island anyone?

Embers

Very clearly inspired by Peatbog Faeries, Afro Celt Sound System and the like. This track features exciting countermelodies between uillean pipes and yangqin – very different instruments from different sides of the world.
